Kids Listen Activity Podcast, Episode 36:

Unspookable Presents Zombies

unspookable.jpg
Stories of the walking dead permeate many cultures, but have you ever wondered if zombies could actually exist? On this episode of Unspookable, we'll ask what exactly is a zombie? Where did the word come from? And why are they so popular today? Recommended for middle graders ages 8+. Listen to the episode here

After the episode, do the activity - prepare for a zombie apocalypse! Details below.
It's a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE and we need to prepare!

1. While we all know that zombies aren't real, let's pretend that we needed to prepare to hide out for four weeks in the event of a zombie apocalypse. You're allowed to select one item to pack from each category. What would you choose?

  • If you could only pick ONE BOOK, what would you pack?

  • If you could only eat ONE FOOD for EVERY MEAL, what would you eat?

  • Now, you can only choose ONE DRINK for four weeks. What would you choose?

  • You’re only allowed to listen to ONE SONG. Choose wisely.

  • Netflix isn’t working correctly so you can only pick ONE MOVIE or TV SHOW.

  • FInally, and most importantly, in addition to having everyone from your house there you can pick ONE FRIEND. Who will it be?

2. Alright, now it’s time to get creative by making a model or drawing a picture.

You have to protect your home or apartment using only the materials you have on your property (that can be the shed, the garage, storage unit, attic). What improvements would you make to keep fortify and secure your residence?

Possible materials:

  • Toilet paper rolls

  • Scissors

  • Paper

  • Old cardboard boxes

  • Markers

  • Colored Pencils

  • Crayons

  • Glue Sticks

For inspiration, think about creating a lookout tower with a telescope, adding a garden to grow fresh fruits and vegetables. What else can you think of that could help you and your family.

Bonus. We know a lot of our listeners (and all of our kid contributors on Unspookable) are fans of Max Brallier’s Last Kids on Earth series of books and tv shows. Of the four main characters (Jack Sullivan, Quint Baker, June Del Toro, Dirk Savage), who do you identify with the most? And what do you think their specific skills are in protecting the group from monsters and zombies?
